COUNT ON US FOR A TREBLE
DON COWIE insists Ross County have the strength in depth to cope with their Dingwall treble bid.
The Staggies swooped to earn a last-gasp replay against Inverness in the Scottish Cup and remain three points clear at the top of the Championship.
They can also take a step closer to their first silverware of the season on Friday night when they entertain East Fife in the semi-final of the Irn-Bru Cup.
Cowie played for County in 2006 when they won the trophy for the first time, defeating Clyde on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
That result propelled them on to bigger things, including Premiership football, and the veteran midfielder insists success on all fronts this season can take the Staggies to new heights.
He said: “Our goal at the start of the season was to secure promotion but we’re still in the Scottish Cup and Irn-Bru Cup.
“We’re in it to win it and have a big enough squad to enable the manager to freshen things and keep us competitive on all fronts.
“We’ve had to patch the BY GARY RALSTON team up at times recently as a result of injuries but the fact we’re still leading the league and involved in both cups says everything about our mentality.
“We’re a team that never knows when it’s beaten as our late goal against Inverness proved.
“We’re a tight-knit group and all live within a short distance of each other. It’s allowed us to form a strong bond as the meaty part of the season approaches.”
Cowie, 35, spent seven years with his boyhood favourites before leaving for a sterling career in English football where he won the Championship with Cardiff.
His only honour with County to date has been that win over the Bully Wee at McDiarmid Park, their first significant honour in the senior game.
He added: “That win in the Challenge Cup put us on the map as people realised it had been little more than a decade since we joined the senior ranks.
“It was a stepping stone. It allowed the club to go on and establish itself in the Premiership.”
