Sensational Suarez chips in as Real pay penalty

-

LUIS SUAREZ scored twice to fire Barcelona into a sixth straight Copa del Rey final after shocking Real in the second leg of this El Clasico clash in Madrid.

Suarez blasted home a cross from Ousmane Dembele before an own goal from Raphael Varane put Barca firmly in control.

But Suarez sealed the victory in style after he was fouled by Casemiro – with a cheeky chip in from the spot.

Barca boss Ernesto Valverde admitted his side had been more clinical after the interval.

He said: “The second half we were much more accurate, in the first half we were not good. Our rhythm was not high enough. After the break we were more decisive in our play. The effort put in has an effect in football.”

Dominant but wasteful Real had ravaged their rivals in the first half while spurning a string of clear chances at the Bernabeu.

Barca went ahead against the run of play in the 50th minute as Dembele led a counter-attack and Suarez slotted his pass into the net.

Spearheaded by the pace of Brazilian teenager Vinicius Jr, Madrid continued to fly forward.

But Barca effectively killed off the tie when Varane bundled the ball into his own net as he tried to stop Suarez reaching another Dembele cross.

Suarez then earned a penalty and further humiliated Madrid by converting an audacious Panenka to deceive keeper Keylor Navas.

La Liga leaders Barca visit Real again in the league on Saturday.

The Catalans, bidding to win the trophy for a record fifth year, will face either Real Betis or Valencia – who meet tonight – in the Final on May 25.
