Rodgers run of success going to end of season

people, including myself ,but there might have been things going on in the background that maybe forced the issue.”

Asked if the players might be negatively affected by losing Rodgers as boss, Lennon said: “Possibly. We just have to deal with that and make sure we keep the ship running smoothly.”

Lennon also confirmed that he could have been given a caretaker’s role at Leicester had Rodgers stayed in Scotland until the end of the season.

During a frantic 48 hours over the weekend Lennon was contacted by director of football Jon Rudkin and sounded out over the prospect of accepting a short term gig there.

Lennon said: “Yeah and the then the whole thing just flipped.

“I spoke briefly to Jon Rudkin but only a five minute chat with him. He said he was bearing me in mind if they were thinking of an interim but already by that stage they wanted a permanent manager in.”

Lennon will now return across the M8 on Saturday for his second game in charge - a do-ordie Scottish Cup quarter final clash with Hibs Leicester’s which will also be something of a grudge match coming just four weeks after he was axed from the Easter Road hotseat in some bizarre circumstances.

He said: “I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it. But I must say, I’m looking forward to it.” the dirty but we’ll get over it. My concern now is he’ll be back pretty soon with his cheque book for Tom Rogic, Kieran Tierney, James Forrest, Scott Sinclair as well as loanees Oliver Burke and Timo Weah.”

said: “Rodgers has let us down and if anything drastic happens before the end of the season we know who will get the blame.”

said: “Why on earth would Rodgers give up the chance of a good move simply to win another Treble? I hope he goes on to enjoy great success at Leicester.”

said: “This serves Peter Lawwell right for not opening the biscuit tin for the last couple of years. My bet on Rangers to win the league this season is looking a lot better now.”

After last night’s return to the dugout, Lennon now heads to Easter Road in the Scottish Cup just weeks after leaving Hibs following a bust-up.

said: “I’m convinced Lennon knew weeks ago he was getting this job.”

said: “When Lennon left Hibs I felt something wasn’t right and I now think this was all planned.”

said: “I’m more confident about winning the treble Treble with Lennon because he’ll bring a bit of steel to the team.”

said: “Fans can be quite fickle but the manner in which Rodgers left means folk will look at the negatives rather than the positives during his Celtic tenure and he only has himself to blame.” CALL THE HOTLINE TODAY FROM 11 TILL 12 NOON on: 0141 309 3306 or email us: hotline@dailyrecord.co.uk
