Having Buddies on our tails won’t turn the heat up at Dens

-

BY EUAN McARTHUR JIM McINTYRE insists having St Mirren breathing down their necks hasn’t put more pressure on Dundee in the drop zone.

The Buddies are now just one point behind the Dark Blues, who face Hearts at home tomorrow.

But Dens boss McIntyre said: “All you can do in this position is look after your own results.

“I’ve said on numerous occasions from day one there will be ups and downs along the way.

“It’s just about making sure you keep on an even keel. I fully expect the three teams at the bottom to be going hard at it until the end of the season.

“It will be that close. It would be great if we could put together a six or sevengame winning run but the chances of that happening aren’t huge because the consistency levels haven’t been great all season.

“That’s what we’re all striving for – to get out of it – but equally we know it will be tough in this last period of the season.”

McIntyre is in no doubt Dundee are now able to survive. He said: “We’ve definitely got the squad to do it. If we want to stay in this league it’s got to be a case of onwards and upwards from now on.

“We’ve let ourselves down in the last couple of games against Hibs and Rangers but the new players have gelled overall and certain parts of our play have improved.

“I have full belief in the players. If we don’t pick up the wins it won’t be for a lack of trying.”
