VAR AND PEACE

Shame on anyone who didn’t watch Euro classic and VAR made it even better ... we’ve got to get it in Scotland, even the refs are asking about it - CRAIG LEVEIN

go from 90 to 98 per cent correct during a game and that extra eight per cent makes a big difference.

“That Spurs goal? People accept there are decision that are 50-50. It’s the more blatant ones when you feel you’ve been cheated out of something that are hard to take.

“Not, I stress, cheated by the referee, but cheated in the sense you didn’t get the right outcome.

“There will always be situations when two people look at situations differently but people will also understand the choice was really close and it’s very difficult to split.

“The thing that infuriates players is when they know what has happened and the decision has still gone against them and it sits in your stomach and gnaws away at you.

“As a manager you go home after a game and know you have competed very well but one decision has cost you – and some of the decisions are really, really difficult for referees.

“If I was a referee I would rather have something fixed the moment it happened rather than go home kicking myself on a Saturday night because I got it wrong.

“Referees want to sleep at night. They are desperate for VAR so they don’t have to carry the can, which they have been doing for years. They’re onlyy human and will make mistakeskes every now and again.

“No one should argue we shouldn’tdn’t be looking for the right outcome.me. The drama is part of it.

“I’ve gone home after games and thoughtht I couldn’t have done any more with my team but the referee was caughtught in the wrong position or didn’tn’t see something and we lost thee game.

“It feelsels sore. At least with VAR you canan have some influence, rather than worry too much about what thehe referee is going to do.”

Leveinein lamented a winner for tomorrow’smorrow’s opponents Rangersrs at Tynecastle e a rl i er thithi s seasonn when Ibrox striker Alfredo Morelos was shown to have swooped from an offside position. Steven Gerrard will also point out his striker raced clean through on goal in the second half of that match only to be flagged unfairly on an offside call. Levein said: “Rangers are the one team this season we haven’t reallyr turned up against. I have no complaints about the efforefforts in any of the games but we’ve lost goals in a certain manner that has been disappointing. “Making mistakes and giving goals away helps the opposition more thathan if somebody rattles one into the top corner from 20 yards. “We’ve given Rangers a startsta in two of the matches we’ve playedpl against then. If we don’t makem any mistakes on SatuSaturday we’ve got a greatg chance of winning.”winnin
