Levein: It might not Soutt to go to Rangers

- BY GARY RALSTON

CRAIG LEVEIN has teased Rangers fans by insisting John Souttar might not fancy a move to Ibrox.

The Hearts boss did not elaborate but claims the Scotland defender is happy to continue his career progress at Tynecastle.

Record Sport revealed Steven Gerrard is lining up a £2million summer swoop for the former Dundee United kid.

Levein refused to put a price tag on the head of his 22- year- old but it ’ s understood he values him at least highly as Aberdeen rate Scott McKenna – and the Dons have already knocked back a £5million offer from England.

Gerrard will get another close look of Souttar in action when Rangers travel to Gorgie tomorrow.

But Levein hinted he’s wasting his time even considering a bid.

He said: “I’m not sure John would want to go there to be honest.”

And he added: “You know I was just throwing a little pebble into the water.

“John is the most laidback kid I have met in my life. It will take a lot to get John excited and I haven’t felt the need to speak to him about the speculation.

“I don’t need to value John. It is straightforward. If a club makes an offer we will talk about it in the boardroom.

“John has improved every year since coming here and is in no hurry to go anywhere. ”

Asked to rate him against his Scottish rivals Levein said: “John can do more things than the ones he would be put up against.

“The big question was always his strength and ability to compete in the air and now he is as good as anyone. He has worked really hard.”
