BY MARIA CROCE NEW mum Di McKelvie can’t stop laughing as she holds up her giant pants for the camera in new TV series #BumpBirthBaby.

She’s filmed packing her bag before going into hospital to have her son Kai and admits she bought extra-large knickers – not realising quite how big they’d be.

She didn’t think the clip would be in the series because she’d made the cameraman laugh so much she thought the camera must have been shaking.

She says on film: “They say you need large pants. I don’t think they’re meant to be that big. You could fit three people in here. These would fit elephants.”

Di, 27, from Glasgow, is one of a group of new mums to be featured in the first episode of the BBC Scotland TV series that’s screened tomorrow evening.

The three-part series follows mums in Scotland through their pregnancies and beyond.

Marketing manager Di is looking forward to seeing herself on TV – although she’s also a little nervous. “I’m apprehensive about seeing my giant face,” she said.

She’ll be viewing the show on her mum’s projector screen – so her face and those pants will be even bigger.

She laughs about her changing shape in the show. Di said: “I look like a really c**p version of a Tellytubby.”

But she hopes the series will help pregnant women. She said: “The show could be good for mums to be to feel they’re not alone and everyone faces their challenges.” Di says she craved pot noodles, fried chicken and chocolate when she was carrying Kai. But she admits, as a first-time mum, she hadn’t thought much beyond giving birth. She added: “A lot of first-time mums tend to think about the labour and childbirth. You just don’t think what happens afterwards.” After the show finished filming, Di married visitor services adviser David, 28, and they’re planning a big party in August at which Kai, who is now eight months old, will wear a kilt.

The couple – who had put off getting married to spend time travelling, including a spell managing a whisky bar on Skye – officially tied the knot in April in a registry office.

Di said: “It was very emotional and beautiful and both of our mums came to that and Kai was allowed in. It was lovely but right at the really emotional and poignant part, Kai started blowing raspberries. We were crying and laughing.”

Di went back to work when the tot was six months old. She said: “My goal is I want to be a working mum and I want to earn money to have nice experiences with Kai and give him a good life.” ●#BumpBirthBaby starts on BBC Scotland tomorrow at 10pm.
