Tributes as heart attack kills transgender LGBT campaigner who scooped £4million
wishes. People saying it is a shame I’m not dead.
“Well, there’s nothing wrong with this ticker, so you’ve got me for a while yet so I’m sure that will make you happy.”
Fiancee Rachel Nason confirmed Mel collapsed and died on Saturday at the Hull home she bought after her £4million lottery scratchcard win in December 2017.
Melissa, previously a taxi driver called Les, had gender reassignment surgery in 2011.
She had spent years bidding for fame, going on Britain’s Got Talent, Judge Rinder and Jeremy Kyle – twice. She posted bizarre YouTube videos and her antics included trying to auction her virginity to help pay for new teeth.
After her win, Melissa – who called herself “Mel the Millionaire” – spent £50,000 on her teeth, lip and cheek fillers, and botox.
She said it was “payback time” as she had not been in touch with her four children for “many years”.
Two of them told her to “stuff [her] millions”, claiming she would scrounge cash and had humiliated them in her videos. Her youngest – revealed not to be her biological child on an episode of Jeremy Kyle – is thought to have made up with her later.
In her last chat with our sister paper The Mirror, Mel said of her heart scare: “All of my chest was crushing in. I thought, ‘This is it’. It makes you realise how precious life is.”
She also told of saying goodbye to Rachel, telling her: “I love you so much, I want you to always remember.”
She added: “I am sat here thinking, ‘How lucky am I?’. Maybe it is a wake-up call.”
