Gail: I’ll Corrie on until the end 45 years on cobbles and veteran star ain’t done yet
CORONATION Street legend Helen Worth says she is “hanging in there” on the soap and may celebrate 50 years on the cobbles.
Helen, 68, who has played Gail since 1974, rubbished talk of problems on set and what has been seen as a mass exodus of cast members.
The star insisted it made sense for young actors to try other drama work. She said: “Rumours of a crisis are absolute nonsense.
“This happens all the time, it’s the natural way of Coronation Street. I’ve seen a few come and go but I’m still hanging in there.”
Helen said: “In July, I will have been on the street 45 years. We are moving along. Am I staying for 50 years? I’ve no idea, we will see.”
In February, Kym Marsh, 42, who has played Michelle Connor for 13 years, announced her departure. BY RECORD REPORTER In the space of a week, six other stars confirmed they were leaving.
These included Tristan Gemmill, 51, who played Robert Preston, Faye Brookes, 31, (Kate Connor) and 23-year-old Lucy Fallon (Bethany Platt).
Viewers have just waved goodbye to Sally Metcalfe’s sister Gina Seddon, played by Connie Hyde, 49, and Bhavna Limbachia, 35, as Rana Habeeb, who was killed in the Underworld factory collapse in March.
Speaking about her screen granddaughter, Helen said: “Lucy Fallon is a very young, very beautiful and very talented actress. I love her. She has to go and see what’s out there.
“Of course I’d love her to come back but, in actual fact, I would rather she was working so much that she didn’t need to come back.”
