Ziggy’s zooming off to Bucharest after bagging Dinamo deal

- BY ANTHONY HAGGERTY

ZIGGY GORDON will seal a deal with Romanian Liga I outfit Dinamo Bucharest next week.

Dinamo boss Mircea Rednic confirmed the Red Dogs have won the race for Gordon’s signature after failing with a £125,000 bid for the Hamilton defender back in February.

Rednic sent daughter Luana to Paisley on Monday night to conclude the deal and she watched from the stands as the 26-year-old – out of contract in the summer – turned out for Accies in their 2-0 Premiership defeat to St Mirren.

Rednic said: “Ziggy will sign next week. We have big plans for the year and we’re moving on a good road. There will be four or five good players coming in during the summer.

“We want to qualify for the European play-offs next season.”

Gordon will kick his last ball for the Lanarkshire men on Saturday as he brings the curtain down on his second stint with Hamilton.

Defeat in Paisley saw St Mirren reduce the gap to 10th-placed Hamilton to a solitary point.

Accies entertain St Johnstone at the Hope CBD Stadium while the Saints travel to Dens Park to take on already relegated Dundee.

Brian Rice’s side must now equal or better the Buddies’ result to avoid the relegation play-offs.

Gordon is determined to end his near 10-year association with the club by guiding Accies to safety and an unprecedented sixth successive season in the top flight.

He said: “I started out at this club when I was just 10 years old and don’t want relegation on my CV. The boys don’t deserve it, the gaffer doesn’t deserve it and the club certainly doesn’t deserve it.

“I don’t think it’s fair on the gaffer, fans or players who work so hard for myself to take any attention away from this weekend.“
