Hopkin’s returning to Morton

-

BY SCOTT BURNS DAVID HOPKIN is set to be appointed Morton manager after agreeing on a return to Cappielow.

The 48-year-old will replace Jonatan Johansson, who walked out on the club along with assistant manager Peter Houston before the final game of the season against Dundee United.

The Ton legend has had two spells at the club, as a player and also caretaker manager in 2003 and then 10 years later.

He will now return to Cappielow looking for the same success he had at Livingston where he led them to back-to-back promotions and into the Premiership – only to quit after going up through the play-offs.

He knocked back a number of jobs offers, including Morton, before he headed south for an ill-fated spell in charge of another of his former clubs Bradford City.

Hopkin had also been linked with the vacant Dundee job but decided he couldn’t wait and turn down a return to Morton.

Chief executive Warren Hawke has already left and been replaced by David MacKinnon while goalkeeping coach David Wylie has also been axed.
