- MICHAEL GANNON ANSWERS YOUR CALLS

RANGERS grabbed the bragging rights after Sunday’s Old Firm showdown but now comes the backlash from the other side of the city.

The dust is beginning to settle and Celtic fans got off the floor to hit back on the Hotline.

Neil Murray, Craigneuk, said: “Rangers have got completely carried away. If Celtic needed a point to win the league at Ibrox they would have got one. This was a Celtic reserve team as they had one eye on the Cup Final – while this was Rangers’ cup final.”

Mick Docherty, Kirkintilloch, said: “We should be thanking Rangers. Celtic will now appoint a top manager who will march us to nine in a row.”

John Burney, Inchinnan, said: “Steven Gerrard seems to be carried away with this performance. A fluke goal in the opening two minutes is always likely to galvanise any team.

“A red card for Jon Flanagan with resulting penalty would have made a huge difference. It’s taken him eight months to get the blend right and he now sounds cocky about a dead rubber.”

Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: “The news that Gerrard is competing with the likes of Scunthorpe for the signature of League Two player George Edmundson certainly won’t have alarm bells ringing over at Celtic Park.” Patrick Cunningham, Denny, said: “The Rangers fans have accepted their club is based on failure with the odd moment of euphoria when they beat the champions.

“At Celtic we measure the manager’s success on how much silverware he brings to the club, not how many times we beat another team’s second string.”

Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: “People talking about Celtic losing players are grasping at straws. We are getting rid of all the dross we don’t need to free up wages for a top manager to sign quality Rangers can’t afford to secure the double nine in a row they fear.”

Mary-Jane McLaughlin, said: “Celtic should keep Neil Lennon and Scott Brown. No harm to Rangers but it was a meaningless game and the squad was tired. Lenny’s done the job he was brought in to do and can make it nine in a row.”

But Paul Price, Govan, said: “Lennon needs to be ruthless like Anne Robinson and say to Brown, ‘You are the weakest link, goodbye!’ He was terrible at Ibrox twice now and not much better at Celtic Park.” Gers fans reckon the blue tide is turning.

Andy Adams, Kirkcaldy, said: “If anyone thinks Peter Lawwell is going to spend the thick end of £45million they need to go lie down in a dark room. He wouldn’t even spend £3m on John McGinn. Celtic have a massive wage bill to service, the club still has to be run properly, so he’ll sell before they spend.”

John Allardyce, Edinburgh, said: “Celtic fans know Lennon’s taking them backwards. He was ruining Hibs before he got sacked. His methods are years behind Brendan Rodgers’. It’s Rangers’ title next season.”

One Hotline caller had an idea to sort out the SPFL wild west. John Burke, Condorrat, said: “Clare Whyte seems to be ignoring one of the most important pages in the rule book – the sine die law. It applies to players guilty of vicious attacks on the field but it’s been completely looked over this season.”

Finally, it’s been 55 days since Scotland got clobbered in Kazakhstan but still no new boss.

Shaun Mahon, Caithness, said: “I really hope the delay in appointing a new Scotland manager means their preferred target is at a club otherwise its another shambles by the SFA.”
