Lesley Manville and Peter Mullan are brilliantly understated as the will they, won’t they? couple, both saying a huge amount without ever saying very much at all. as we rejoin them, the family has decamped to a country mansion to celebrate Derek’s birthday. Every episode will cover one day leading up to the big party.
Pauline (Dorothy atkinson) is being an insufferable snob. Jason and Kelly (Sam Swainsbury and Lisa McGrillis) are as cute as they are idiotic.
Then Michael arrives, much to Jason’s consternation, but he and Cathy have a date to discuss.
