JOCKY WILSON SAID
BBC1, 9pm
ONE of Scotland’s greatest ever sportsmen – and one of the most tragic rise-and-fall stories.
Kirkcaldy’s Jocky Wilson was one of the first superstars of the televised era of darts, winning two world titles and four UK titles within a decade.
He was renowned for his heavy drinking, smoking and unhealthy lifestyle but was unbeatable at his best. This new film tells the story of the man who went from gutting fish and picking tatties to worldwide fame and success –and then lost it all.
A combination of booze, poor health and bad financial decisions saw him go bankrupt and quit the game before his time.
Now, his friends from home and the sport pay tribute to him in this wonderful documentary charting the life and times of the cheerful and smiling Scots hero who was loved by millions.
