Meanwhile .. another Scottish teen loses their life

-

BY KATHLEEN SPEIRS SCOTLAND looked to have lost another young life to drugs last night after the death of a teenage girl was being blamed on possible ecstasy use.

Chelsea Bruce, 16, passed away on Sunday morning after taking ill at a house party in the Springburn area of Glasgow.

Two men, aged 16 and 18, are still in Glasgow Royal Infirmary after also falling ill at the flat party on Fernbank Street.

Police believe the youngsters may have been taking ecstasy and said that while they are yet to establish how Chelsea died, the use of MDMA is one line of enquiry.

A statement from Chelsea’s family said: “Words cannot express the utter devastation and loss we feel that our beloved, beautiful Chelsea has been taken from us in such tragic circumstances.

“She was our wee angel and had her whole life in front of her. “Everyone loved her. “She was an incredibly kind, loving and generous girl who was always smiling.”

Heartbroken friends of the Springburn Academy pupil took to social media to pay respects to “a gorgeous funny girl”. On Facebook Ellie McLaren wrote: “I will miss your contagious laugh and smile you were truly one in a million and a good friend. Such a big piece will be missing in our school.”

Megan Hamilton added: “Chelsea was one of the most caring and loving girls I had ever met.”

Bobbie McLaughlin posted: “I never met a funnier girl in my life. Sleep tight baby girl.”

A police spokeswoman told the Daily Record: “Police and emergency services were called after a 16-year-old girl took unwell at a flat on Fernbank Street in Springburn at about 2.30am. She was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where she died a short time later.

“A post-mortem will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of her death.

“At this time, police are not treating the death as suspicious and inquiries are continuing.

“Two male youths aged 16 and 18 were also in the flat and felt unwell.

“They were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where they remain for observation.”
