Life really DOES begin at half-century

-

BY RUKI SAYID reporters@dailyrecord.co.uk FIFTY is the new 21 as the middle-aged have never had more fun.

Modern 50-somethings are at it every few days, just as likely to watch YouTube as You’ve Been Framed and have gym membership, says travel agency TUI.

The middle-aged are ditching their old fogey image and living life to the limit by going to gigs and late-night parties, eating out at least once a month and regularly meeting friends for a drink in the pub.

One in 10 even claim their sex lives are better as they approach their 60s, the research reveals.

And far from being stickin-the-muds, they are hooked on the latest TV shows and box sets and would much rather watch Game of Thrones or Killing Eve than settle down to an episode of EastEnders.

A fifth of over-50s watch their favourite singers and bands live at least four times a year. Yet, despite being on-trend and feeling young at heart, many feel let down by brands which stereotype them as beige. A quarter feel fashion labels don’t represent their age group accurately, while a fifth believe the way middle age is portrayed in advertising campaigns is way off the mark.

More than one in 10 reckon the beauty, music and travel industries are also among the areas that do not represent them well.

Despite trying to shake off their fuddy-duddy image, more than one in five 50-somethings think young people see them as unadventurous or boring.

The survey also found a fifth of 18 to 29-year-olds believe older people “never” go to gigs while one in 20 think over-50s are past it in the nookie department.
