MEET INSEPARABL­E ANNE & BOBBY..

BY IAN BUNTING A DEVOTED couple underwent life-saving operations on the same day at the same time... in the same hospital.

In an unusual twist of fate, Anne and Bobby Coburn were able to wave to each other as they were wheeled into separate theatres.

Anne, 62, was in the Golden Jubilee Hospital in Clydebank for a triple bypass procedure after suffering a heart attack in February, while Bobby, 66, was having a tumour removed from his lung, which was found following tests for a prolapsed disc.

Recently retired Anne said: “We were trying to work out if it was a good thing or not, because of the seriousnes­s of the operations but it’s all worked out in the end.

“I told Bobby, ‘We’ve been married 45 years and I can’t even get an operation on my own’.”

Anne would have had her surgery earlier but her operation was pushed back after she developed pneumonia.

That coincided with Bobby, a retired Class 1 driver, who already had the date for his op.

Both were scheduled for 8.15am on June 26.

Anne said: “We even waved to each other when we were in the theatres and the staff were just wonderful with us. “It was like a fairy story.” The Chapelhall couple were also treated in the same high dependency unit by the same nurse. Dedicated staff went the extra mile to ensure anxious Bobby, who was out of surgery first, knew Anne came through her procedure safely.
