Brexit tycoon Dyson, who quit Britain for Singapore, buys its most expensive pad
MEGA-RICH Sir James Dyson has splashed out £44million on Singapore’s most expensive apartment – after controversially moving his firm’s HQ there.
The three-storey “super penthouse” boasts five bedrooms, its own swimming pool, jacuzzi, dedicated lift, private garden and a room that stores 600 bottles of wine.
Dubbed a “bungalow in the sky”, the 21,000 sq ft Wallich Residence penthouse sits on top of the country’s tallest building – Tanjong Pagar Centre – and occupies the 62nd to 64th floors.
Records show billionaire Dyson and his wife, rug designer Lady Deirdre, became tenants of the 99-year lease property on June 20.
Local reports say that the tycoon, who has been given permanent residence status, paid £44million.
A Dyson spokesman: “Given the decision to locate the headquarters in Singapore, of course James Dyson has bought a property there.” Brexit-backing Dyson was accused of “staggering hypocrisy” when in January it was announced the company’s headquarters were moving from Britain to Asia. Dyson will no longer be a British-registered company, and low-tax Singapore will become its main tax base. The business, famed for bagless vacuum cleaners, revealed it made a record £1billion profit last year. The firm previously sparked fury by deciding to build its new electric car in Singapore, not Britain.
Dyson’s new apartment was described as “insanely luxurious” in 2017, when it was marketed for £58million.
However, despite the price tag, the flat is a snip compared with Britain’s most expensive home ever sold.
A two-storey London apartment at the luxury development of One Hyde Park in Knightsbridge went for £160million last year.
