WHERE EAGLES DARE

-

EAGLES BY DAY (1.50) can swoop in the Bahrain Trophy on Day 1 of the July Festival at Newmarket.

Michael Bell’s colt landed his maiden in spectacular style at Salisbury before taking sixth in the best Lingfield Derby Trial for years.

Pitched into the Edward VII, the three year-old made eyecatching late headway down the stiff Ascot run-in to finish third behind Japan.

That marked him out as a BY GARRY OWEN prime St Leger candidate and the three-year-old should come on plenty over this extra furlong. Godolphin’s PLATINUM

STAR (2.25) can sparkle in a red-hot renewal of the July Stakes. Saeed bin Suroor’s colt has done little but improve and just failed to catch Southern

Hills in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot.

The juvenile was staying on strongly at the end of a well-run five furlongs so he should take another step forward up in trip.

Plenty in with chances in the Bet365 Handicap but I’m siding with MOSS GILL (3.0). James Bethell’s sprinter has been progressive over five furlongs and slammed Good Luck Fox on his handicap bow at Ripon.

The gelding wasn’t exactly stopping at the business end that day so he can defy a wellearned 6lb hike over six furlongs.

MASAR (3.35) can finally get his career back on track in the Princess of Wales’s Stakes. Impressive in last year’s Epsom Derby, Charlie Appleby’s star ran better than the bare result when fifth on his comeback in the Hardwicke.

That visit to Royal Ascot should have put him spot on for this Group 2 and he can comfortably dismiss some talented rivals. The Godolphin handler can double up with DUBAI PARADISE (4.05) who makes plenty of appeal on paper in a warm maiden.

TURGENEV (4.40) can atone

for his Britannia near miss in the Sir Henry Cecil Stakes.

John Gosden’s colt looked tailor-made for Listed company when just collared late by the classy Biometric in the Ascot cavalry charge.

MOQTARREB (5.10) can shade the competitive John Deere Handicap for Roger Varian. The Kingman colt improved again when hacking up over course and distance and won’t be anchored by a 7lb hike at present.
