- BY LUCINDA CAMERON

A VOLUNTEER who died aged 14 is being honoured by a charity as it launches its annual first aid awards.

St Andrew’s First Aid has announced that the Young First Aid Volunteer of the Year Award will be officially renamed the Amy Allan Young Volunteer of the Year Award in memory of the teenager.

Amy, from Dalry in Ayrshire, tried out activities such as Brownies and playing the cello before discovering a passion for helping others. She joined the St Andrew’s First Aid Queen Street Youth Cadets in April 2016.

The teenager, who died in September 2018 after battling a series of lifelong conditions, became a leader, ambassador, friend and mentor to others during the time she spent with the corps. Stuart Callison, chief executive of St Andrew’s First Aid, said Amy was everything they looked for in their young volunteers.

Amy’s mother Leigh said: “She wanted to teach others the skills to help save a life and never let her own health struggles get in the way.”
