Actor Kris went to hospital

-

BY JENNIFER HYLAND A FORMER River City actor needed hospital treatment after a mass disturbance outside a house.

Kris McDowall, who appeared in the BBC show in 2015 as a troubled ex-con, is understood to have suffered cuts to his head and body.

McDowall, 33, from Saltcoats, Ayrshire, went to hospital after police responded to reports of a disturbance at an address in the town’s Doon Place at 3.45pm on Monday.

James Johannesen, 36, of Saltcoats, appeared in private at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday accused of assault to severe injury over the incident.

He made no plea, the case was continued for further examination and he was bailed.

McDowall did not respond to requests for comment. His agent, Stiven Christie, said: “There isn’t much I can say. I can’t get involved in his personal life.”

River City, set in the fictional community of Shieldinch, is Scotland’s only current homegrown soap opera. Launched in 2002, it pulls in about 500,000 viewers.
