Queen back to work hours after palace gates scaled

THE Queen met Prime Minister Theresa May at Buckingham Palace hours after police arrested a man suspected of climbing the gates of her London home.

The 93-year-old kept to her diary in the wake of an intruder being arrested at the palace in the early hours of Wednesday.

The Queen carried out a full programme of engagement­s, including BY LAURA ELSTON her regular meeting with the Prime Minister.

She met the new Dean of Her Majesty’s Chapels Royal, Dame Sarah Mullally, and her predecesso­r, Lord Chartres, yesterday.

Royal police officers arrested a 22-year-old man after he scaled the front gates at 2am on Wednesday morning as she slept inside.

Reports said he was loose in the grounds for four minutes.

The man was held on suspicion of trespass, and released yesterday as police continued to investigat­e.

The intruder was not carrying any weapons and the incident was not being treated as terror-related.

The palace said the Queen was in residence but didn’t say if she had been informed at the time.
