HOTTEST SHOW

-

IT WAS taps-aff TRNSMT yesterday as the first day of the Glasgow Green music festival turned into a scorcher.

After days of rain, the sun baked the estimated 50,000 fans in 22C heat.

Several revellers were treated for sunburn and heat exhaustion as temperatures continued to rise during the afternoon. Some 130 people were checked at the medical tent, many suffering from the heat.

There were also eight arrests for minor disorder offences

Conor and Iona Stewart, both 29, who travelled down from Lossiemouth yesterday morning, were among those who hadn’t come prepared.

Conor, who was wearing a kilt, laughed: “No sun cream or anything – whoops.” But the true BY MICKEY McMONAGLE, RICK FULTON, JESSIE WILSON AND JOHN DINGWALL Scotsman said: “The kilt’s going to be on for the full weekend for sure – sunshine or not.”

Festival boss Geoff Ellis insisted the young crowd – with many under 18 – were dealing with the unexpected heat, helped by water taps around the site. He said: “Fortunately it’s not too hot and people seem to be coping pretty well overall.

He has no regrets about revealing T in the Park was officially over – three years after it was put on hold. Geoff said: “It’s not a bombshell. Nobody’s talking about it. I happened to be having a conversation about TRNSMT and it came up.”

It was a very young crowd yesterday with dozens of teenagers looking forward to headliner Stormzy and Glasgow icon Gerry Cinnamon, who will surely be headlining next year.

Stormzy just made it to the venue on time – thanks to a police escort from the airport.

The rapper had played a gig in Switzerland on Thursday and his flight back was delayed by two hours.

Gabriella Rose and Amelia Jarvis, 19-year-old students from Aberdeen, travelled down for their first taste of TRNSMT.

Amelia said: “We’ve always heard of it being a great festival and when we saw Gerry and Stormzy on the same line-up, we had to come down.

“This weather is just too good. I feel like I’m on holiday.”

English music fans Sebastian, Chris and Sophie, all 21, arrived from Lincoln and admitted they were scared the weather would be terrible. Sophie said: “We were nervous but the Scottish weather is great. We were just
