Johnson’s hero is wartime leader Winston Churchill – but just four per cent of those polled picked “Churchillian” as one of three words to describe him.

Some 39 per cent think he is a buffoon and 31 per cent said he is untrustworthy.

Only two per cent of those quizzed by YouGov chose “statesman-like”, and “diplomatic”. But nine per cent chose “racist” and eight per cent “womaniser”.

It comes as 160,000 Tory members choose between him and Jeremy Hunt as their next leader and Britain’s PM.

“These results show that the country is antiBoris Johnson – and that’s no surprise,” said Best for Britain’s Naomi Smith. “It’s disgraceful a tiny fraction of the population will be forcing this buffoon on us.”
