SILVERSTONE has been the location for some remarkable moments in Formula 1 history. And tomorrow, the millions of fans tuning in to watch the British Grand Prix might just witness another.

Five-time world champion Lewis Hamilton is heading into Sunday’s event in a bid to win his home race for a record sixth time.

And the good news is that if he wins, so could you!

Sports fans are preparing to have a serious punt on the outcome of the race, and many are backing the 34-year-old to write his record win into the sport’s history books.

But it’s not just the outright race winner punters are making predictions on – online bookmaker The Pools is also offering bets on which driver will record the fastest lap, or even whether a safety car will be sent out during the race.

As a nation, we gamble £14.5 billion every year – that’s a staggering £459 every second.

And online betting has made it easier than ever as you can now place bets in seconds from your smartphone. Today, almost 20% of punters place bets online, with more than half using their mobiles to bet on everything from football to handball.

This means players can even place a bet midway through live events.

And it’s giving family and friends the opportunity to bet alongside one another as the action unfolds on the screen.

The good news is that even if you’ve never placed a bet, it’s easy to join in the fun.

We’ve produced a helpful beginner’s guide to placing a bet with The Pools – a new online bookmaker from the historic Football Pools brand.

And if you’re a little short of time to start studying the form guide in time for this year’s British Grand Prix, we’ve asked the experts at The Pools to do it for you.
