Ton call the police over coin strike

-

MORTON have called in police after a linesman was struck by a coin thrown from the crowd during Tuesday’s friendly clash with St Johnstone.

The linesman, who was not badly hurt, was struck by the coin which was thrown from the Cowshed at Cappielow.

Morton, who lost the match 3-2, have reported the incident and are searching CCTV footage to identify the culprit.

A statement from the Greenock club said: “The club will co-operate fully with Police Scotland in ensuring the strongest action available is taken against this individual.” BY SCOTT BURNS LEWIS FERGUSON insisted there is no need for panic and is confident Aberdeen will see their Europa League tie out in style by rattling RoPs in Rovaniemi.

The Dons dominated the first leg and take a 2-1 lead away from Pittodrie, although the loss of the injury-time away goal to the Finns has left some alarm bells ringing.

Midfielder Ferguson knows it was a disappointment and the scoreline should have been far more convincing but is in no doubt Aberdeen can hit the road and progress with home and away victories.

He said: “We created enough chances to show that when we go over there it will pretty much be the same.

“It will be the same type of intensity we showed.

“The intensity was outstanding for this stage of the season to be so sharp and quick. It was freeflowing football. If we do that next week we’ll be comfortable.”

RoPS are a team midway through their domestic season while Thursday was Aberdeen’s first run out. But it was the Finns who were left out on their feet.

Ferguson said: “The standard of our football was really high, especially at this stage of the season. For the first competitive game, we looked sharp, we looked quick.

“We created chances and that finishing touch let us down. We should be talking about how good the performance was but we’re going to be talking about the last 10 or 15 seconds when we lose a disappointing goal.

“It’s slack on our part. We should just clear the ball and get it out of danger but their best player picks the ball up and plays the pass.

“Players in Europe can do that. They can find runs and cut through you with passes like that. It’s just so disappointing because I thought the football we played was outstanding.”

Ferguson knows Dons were wasteful and then denied by an inspired keeper in the shape of Antonio Regeuro.
