I will crush your souls

US ace Kang wants a boos-up with Gleneagles crowd

PATRICK REED tried to silence Gleneagles.

Danielle Kang wants the home crowds to bring the jeers – before leaving the Europeans in tears.

Solheim Cup star Kang watched Reed cause a stir when he shushed the crowds at the Ryder Cup in these parts five years ago.

The move backfired as Europe swept to victory against the US but Kang has her own approach when it comes to the women’s transatlantic clash this week.

She wants to be booed. It will only fire her up even more and she’s not going to be taking any prisoners out there as she cranked up the heat ahead of tomorrow’s clash.

Kang expects a warm welcome but she’s out to leave her European rivals greeting with a soul-crushing defeat on their own patch.

Kang – who won three of her four matches two years ago in the US win on home soil – said: “Patrick shushed the crowd. I can’t shush the crowd. I like noise. I can’t be shushed. I don’t know how you guys would be shushed but I like noise.

“Des Moines last time was pretty top notch for me. The crowds were incredible. The fact we were in the US made it better and I heard all the chants.

“However, since we’re in Scotland I hear I’m going to be booed at one point.

“Bring it on. I’d rather hear loud booing at that point.

“I’m just excited to hear the noise, whatever that may be. Plus, they have an accent, so I’m sure it’s not going to even come out as b-o-o! So it’s all good.”

If Kang wanted to get the crowd riled up she’s going the right way about it after kicking off the fighting talk at Gleneagles.

The former Women’s PGA Championship winner said: “You’re trying to take souls, you know. You’re going there to make people cry at this point, just crush the other team. That’s the fun of it.

“We don’t ever get to do that. We’re always by ourselves, playing for us and our caddie and our own little team.

“To have another person to understand what you feel when you hit a bad shot and to do it together, I just think that’s pretty incredible.

“That psychological part of it is what’s fun for me, that I’m just going after this one person.

“I’m loud whether I’m in Nevada or in Scotland. I don’t think I change no matter where I am. I’m going to embrace the first tee.

“I’m going to embrace the fans out there for the entire golf course whenever I get to play.

“I’m just embracing this vibe that we all get to have and experience among your team-mates and the rival team. It’s a lot of fun.”

Kang is in the mood for a fight and admitted she’s made for this kind of scrap.

She said: “I love match-play golf. The fact that whether it’s a team game or singles, I like playing against one other person.

“I like to have a win or a loss instead of playing the entire field.

“My full idea is that I like to get some kind of feedback. Because in golf, we lose most of the time. If you don’t win, you’re technically a loser. So it’s hard to win. But in match-play you just play one person.

“And the thing I love about the team environment is you have a team-mate.

“You get to play with them and for them and it’s kind of like a sisterhood, as when the men play it’s like a brotherhood. I love somebody having my back and I love having their back.

“Golf is a lonely sport at one point where you’re out there all alone, you’re hitting the shot.

“You and your caddie are just there and nobody understands what you feel and how you felt over a shot like another player.

“To be on the same team and to approach that together to win a cup is pretty incredible.”

Europe may have the fans but Kang reckons Gleneagles plays in to American hands.

The course is wet – as always – and playing every single inch. The Las Vegas star is betting the set-up will benefit the bighitting US side. Kang said: “The golf course is not links style. And personally I’m happy about it. I’m not a big fan of links golf just yet. You can see my stats. “It does give us a little bit of an advantage because we’re not very used to the links-style golf yet. “It suits a lot of different parts of everyone’s game, long hitters, short hitters. It’ll be interesting to see what happens.”
