SOCCEROOS PLAN MOVE FOR MILLER

-

RANGERS starlet Murray Miller is set to be at the centre of an international tug of war with Scotland and Australia.

It’s understood the 17year-old Light Blues midfielder was on the verge of being drafted into Scotland’s Under-18s.

But the Socceroos have now made an official pitch to include the player – who was born in Australia – in their squad for next month’s FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Brazil.

Last week the Aussies featured in a round-robin tournament in England where they played a trio of games against the hosts, South Korea and Brazil.

The Socceroos then made contact with Miller’s family directly and asked if they could run the rule over the young prospect for a couple of days at their training camp.

Both the SFA and Rangers were informed of the situation.

Miller joined the Socceroos two days before their opening match against England at Leicester Road last Friday night. He impressed the coaching staff – and amazingly featured for 15 minutes during the BY ANTHONY HAGGERTY 3-2 defeat. Miller then turned out for 45 minutes in a 3-3 draw against South Korea on Sunday night at Burton-on-Trent.

The Australian FA contacted Rangers to ask for permission to hold on to the player for a longer period and he was given a 20-minute run-out in the 4-0 defeat by Under-17 World Cup hosts Brazil on Tuesday.

While the three fixtures are not classed as official matches Record Sport further understands Miller is now in line for a call-up to Australia’s Under-17s World Cup squad.

The teenager is thought keen to explore the possibility of playing for the country of his birth should Australia follow through on their interest.

Scotland now have a fight on their hands to try to persuade Miller to opt for the dark blue and not to commit his international future to the Socceroos.

And should the Aussies come calling, Miller will have a huge career decision to make.
