Celebrating 150 years of providing social care in Scotland

CrossReach is one of the largest voluntary social care organisations in Scotland and in 2019, are proud to be celebrating their 150th anniversary. Over the years they’ve helped thousands of vulnerable people live better lives, from older people and the homeless to those with learning disabilities or mental health issues. CrossReach have faith that with the right support, every person, whatever their circumstances, can flourish and lead a fulfilling life. Key to achieving this are their 1,800 staff who work with service users across the country. CrossReach also believe that by ensuring their staff get the right support, whether in the form of further training to advance their career, an excellent benefits package or just a friendly ear from a colleague, they are better able to perform their roles and make a real difference to the lives of the people who depend on their care. The result is a rewarding experience for everyone, as Mari Rennie, their HROD Director explains: “Our employees and volunteers have a long legacy of providing social care and support in Scotland, often remarking on the privilege of the work they do, and how in helping others, their own lives are transformed.” “If you show an interest in something, they’ll support you to learn more. I wanted to find out about dementia and they sent me on a range of courses so I’m now a Dementia Ambassador.” Caroline, Deputy Manager, Bellfield “Everyone is very supportive. The door is always open to come in and discuss something, no matter when it is, or if you have a problem your manager will phone you to make sure you’re all right.” Natalie, Threshold Glasgow With over 60 services across Scotland, it’s likely that CrossReach will be working in a community near you.
