BY CONOR RIORDAN THE UK’s largest leather manufacturer will open a new facility in Renfrewshire amid wider plans to help create 9000 jobs.

Scottish Leather Group is set to launch its new Paisley hub by autumn 2020, creating 100 skilled jobs to provide high-end car seat upholstery.

The firm already employs more than 800 people at its Bridge of Weir, Paisley and Glasgow sites.

Group director James Lang, who chairs Renfrewshire’s Economic Leadership Panel, said: “We are delighted to be expanding our Renfrewshire operation further with this important new facility in Paisley, which will create new jobs and enable us to deliver on our expanding portfolio.

“These jobs are an important first step in our ambitions for Renfrewshire.”

Derek Mackay, Finance Secretary, added: “Scotland is an attractive place to do business with a skilled workforce and companies like Scottish Leather Group expanding their operations is testament to this.

“I welcome publication of Renfrewshire’s Economic Strategy, which will help develop the local economy further.” BY AMY-CLARE MARTIN A CAMELOT worker who made a fake £2.5million winning ticket for his friend told another pal it was “quite easy to do”, a court heard.

Former security worker Giles Knibbs carried out the con with builder Edward Putman, 54, after a document with details of winning tickets printed out while he worked late, a jury was told.

But the pair fell out after Putman “reneged” on sharing the winnings and Knibbs later killed himself on October 6, 2015, the prosecution allege.

A jury heard before Knibbs died he had told friends he was “going down for 10 to 15 years for fraud”.

Putman, who denies fraud, was given the prize in 2009 – even though the bottom of his ticket with a barcode and reference number was “badly damaged”.

Experts believe this damaged ticket is a fake, St Albans crown court was told.

Prosecutor James Keeley said: “The National Lottery used to say, ‘It Could Be You’. In respect of the defendant it never was.”

The court heard Knibbs told his friend John Coleyshaw about “vital information” found in the document.
