Stars join forces to re­home hard-hit mil­i­tary he­roes

THE Chase’s Shaun Wal­lace and M Peo­ple singer Heather Small are back­ing a project to re­home mil­i­tary vet­er­ans who have hit hard times.

The stars are sup­port­ing Home­less World­wide, set up by Jenny Roberts af­ter her brother Dar­ren Ledger died on the streets in 2017.

She didn’t find out about his death for three months BY OLIVER PRITCHARD and aims to en­sure that other fam­i­lies don’t suf­fer the same fate.

The project is in col­lab­o­ra­tion with South Ty­ne­side Coun­cil and the Sup­port­ing Lives group in New­cas­tle.

It be­gan with 14 beds in South Shields in Au­gust and aims to of­fer 50 by the end of the year.

Mov­ing On Up singer Heather said: “When we send our men and women to put life and limb in dan­ger, the least we can do is look af­ter them on their re­turn.

“The foun­da­tion is about mak­ing peo­ple aware of what it’s truly like to be home­less.”
