Chester’s our true inspiration

-

SOUTH AFRICA’S first black Test captain Siya Kolisi is banking on the memory of Chester Williams inspiring them to end New Zealand’s World Cup domination.

The All Blacks begin their quest for an unprecedented hat-trick of titles today against a Springboks side touched by this month’s

loss of one of the country’s icons aged just 49.

The image of Williams, the 1995 team’s only black player, has been embedded into South Africa’s jersey numbers. And Kolisi said: “Chester is inspirational to all of us as a team. I was very young when he played and never got to see him play. But for us it was an era that opened doors.

“We look up to the team of 1995 because we feel like they changed things for us in South Africa. We will always respect them.”
