STEW’S SCOT STAR QUALITY

-

BRIAN GRAHAM is convinced fellow Ross County striker Ross Stewart is motoring towards a Scotland career.

But for now, the former Hibs and Dundee United frontman is just happy to have him as co-driver.

Strike pals Graham and Stewart car-share every day en-route to training along with third County frontman Billy Mckay.

Stewart, 23, heralded his Premiership arrival with three goals in five games after banging in four in four League Cup matches.

Graham said: “I was speaking to one of the boys here a few weeks ago, even before Ross started scoring goals.

“I said then I felt he had something Scotland hasn’t got in the team.

“I would tip him to play for Scotland because he has all the attributes for the lone role up front. He’s not only big and tall, he’s quick and can hold the ball up. He’s aggressive too.

“If he keeps doing particularly well this season he has a great BY GORDON PARKS chance to go on and progress his career.”

Stewart worked his way up through the junior ranks to Albion Rovers before winning a move to St Mirren in 2017.

He spent time on loan at Alloa but was still wanted by the Buddies after they won a place in the Premiership. Yet he opted to stay in the Championship with County for his development.

It was a gamble that paid off with 11 goals in County’s promotion term.

Graham said: “The three strikers here – me, Billy and Ross – have a good laugh. We’re good pals.

“Whoever is left out is disappointed – that’s just natural – but as soon as we cross the line on a Saturday, we back each other to the hilt.”

Last time County were at Fir Park, in the Scottish Cup in January, Graham’s double sent them marching on after a 2-1 win.

He added: “Hopefully we can go back in the league and get the three points.”
