ANDY ROBERTSON is one of Liverpool’s most consistently excellent performers, who has nothing to prove to anyone.
That is the message from his manager Jurgen Klopp, who passionately believes that if there is any criticism of his defender then it is because of “the world out there” and not his quality.
The Scotland skipper has endured a tough few weeks with performances for the national side coming under fire, followed by media criticism of his display against Napoli in midweek.
Pundits suggested by dangling a leg he allowed Jose Callejon to win a penalty, with what was in fact a clear and obvious dive.
Robertson has withdrawn, briefly, from social media but Klopp is adamant any abuse his defender has been forced to endure is totally misplaced.
He said: “The criticism has nothing to do with the expectation. It is to do with the world out there.
“He has played well for weeks and months and then you take it for granted. If there is one game less than another, you start asking what has happened to Andy Robertson. Nothing.
“It’s completely normal. The game before he was maybe the best player on the pitch.”
Robertson admitted he had decided to “hide away” following the international break with
