Premiere. In the 11th-century, a mercenary sets out for China to discover how to make gunpowder. However, on arrival, he is pulled into a battle between Chinese warriors and giant, lizard-like monsters. Matt Damon stars.

THE SEVENTH SEAL BBC FOUR, 10.55PM

A disillusio­ned knight returns home from the Crusades to find his home ravaged by the Black Death. He is soon confronted by the Grim Reaper, who tells him it is his time. In order to prolong his life, he challenges the spectral figure to a game of chess, and as they play, he reflects on life, death and the existence of God. Ingmar Bergman’s drama, starring Max von Sydow and Bengt Ekerot.

WE’RE THE MILLERS SKY ONE, 9PM

A drug dealer is hired to pick up a shipment of marijuana in Mexico and bring it back over the border. To make himself look less suspicious, he recruits a stripper and two teenagers to pose as a perfect all-American family on holiday, only to end up getting on the wrong side of a drug cartel. Comedy, with Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston and Emma Roberts.

HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER ITV4, 9PM

A mysterious stranger is hired to defend a remote frontier town from three outlaws who are making people’s lives a misery. Although he rids the community of the troublemak­ers, the residents’ lives take a turn for the worse as their saviour seizes control of the town and seeks to punish them for their past sins. Western, directed by and starring Clint Eastwood, alongside Verna Bloom.

NOW YOU SEE ME 2 FILM4, 9PM

A gang of magicians-turned-criminals is reunited for a comeback performanc­e by a technology magnate, who se actual goal is to force the team into carrying out a seemingly impossible heist on his behalf. The illusionis­ts realise their only hope of avoiding the law is to perform one last stunt to expose the businessma­n’s illegal activities. Crime thriller sequel, starring Jesse Eisenberg.

CHAOS CHANNEL 5, 11.05PM

A veteran cop and his inexperien­ced new partner are assigned to investigat­e a bank heist. At first sight, no money appears to have been stolen. However, it eventually emerges the criminal mastermind behind the robbery had a more complex and profitable scheme in mind – and a possible connection to the detective on his trail. Crime thriller, starring Jason Statham.

MY BROTHER THE DEVIL BBC TWO, 11.45PM
