PICK DAY
CELEBRITY MASTERCHEF
BBC1, 9pm VICKY Pattison is nervous and starting to sweat. “I’m dripping like an egg sandwich,” she says, giving us all an image we’d rather forget.
The I’m A Celeb and Geordie Shore star is the latest celeb to step up to the plate in this latest MasterChef series – and we all know it’s pretty hot in that kitchen. Joining her in this heat are EastEnders’ veteran Adam Woodyatt, former boxing manager and transgender campaigner Kellie Maloney, TV weatherman Tomasz Schafernaker and DJ Judge Jules.
Tomasz worries that he’s “a bit erratic” while Jules is concerned about looking “a fool”.
Adam claims not to have the, er, skills of his alter ego Ian Beale, who has run a chippy, a cafe and a restaurant. He says: “One of the things I’ve always hated about acting is the rehearsals, I just want to get in there and get going.”
While Kellie insists: “It’s like boxing, when the bell goes I’ll get into the zone.” Their first task is to make a curry with rice, bread and a side dish. Judge John Torode observes that Vicky, who only knows how to order a curry, is running around “like a kangaroo loose”. Then they are unleashed on the paying public, working in professional restaurants during a busy lunchtime service.
And finally they must impress John and Gregg Wallace with their own creation.
It looks like the start of a great week for the show, largely buoyed by some comedy from Vicky. She’s hoping not to fall apart “like a saggy jelly”. Let’s pray she doesn’t get the wobbles.
