LADY LUCK DESERTS HOOPS STAR

-

headers between us. The boys told me afterwards it was a brilliant save from the keeper but I think they were just trying to make me feel better!

“I must admit I was a bit gutted. I’m obviously delighted we scored the third goal though because it gave us that wee cushion in the game.

“It came quite soon after the second goal as well.”

Celtic were patient and powerful against a stubborn Kilmarnock side who took a shock lead through Eamonn Brophy’s breakaway.

Odsonne Edouard struck either side of half-time to turn it around before Christie sealed the deal.

Forrest laid on the first and was in the thick of it throughout but felt he could have played until midnight and not hit the net.

He said: “That’s exactly what it felt like! Their goalie was right up for it from the start and made a good few saves. He made us work for the goals but it’s always tough against Kilmarnock, home or away.

“We played really well and the boys enjoyed it.

“We were happy with it. The manager told us we would need to be at it right from the start and we managed to keep it going.

“We scored three but could have had a lot more. I know I could have.

“There are some games in the season when you might get one chance and you score. Then there are ones like today where I had four or five chances but it just didn’t happen.

“But it shows you are playing well and with confidence when you are getting plenty of chances.

“If you keep doing the right things then the goals will come.

“We could have scored more and while I’m obviously gutted not to get on the scoresheet, all the boys were buzzing with the three points and with the way we played.” This was an impressive win for the champions on the back of their Europa League draw in Rennes last Thursday.

Celtic made it a perfect six wins out of six in the league and Forrest insists that Neil Lennon’s men are in the groove right now.

He said: “Since we came back in preseason we’ve been to a lot of places and played in a lot of different competitions.

“The squad is really big though and its competitive. As the manager said, we’ve had a really good start.

“We got a really good result the other night but we wanted to put that to bed and make sure we got back with a really good performance.

“The win was the most important thing but I think we got everything.”

Lennon handed starts to Mortiz Bauer and Olivier Ntcham and Forrest believes that strength in depth is driving Celtic on right now.

Partick Thistle are next up at Celtic Park in the Betfred Cup on Wednesday and the Scotland ace said: “There were two changes from the other night today.

“But we’ve got a big squad and there are players who don’t even get on the bench. Everyone is fighting to get into the team and it keeps everybody on their toes because they know there are international players not even in the squad or on the bench.

“It helps you when you’ve got a really big squad. The manager said before the game that when you are playing well and the team is doing well, you want to keep playing to keep that momentum going.

“We’re on a good run, we’ve had a good win today and we’re back here again on Wednesday night.

“It’s a big game in the quarter-final of the cup. We need to get ready and go again.”
