Trump facing formal impeachment inquiry
A FORMAL impeachment inquiry into US President Donald Trump was launched last night over claims that he sought political help from Ukraine.
The decision by top Democrat Nancy Pelosi follows growing demands from her party.
Trump has denied impropriety but has admitted discussing political rival Joe Biden with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
Trump is alleged to have urged an investigation into Biden during the course of the conversation. No US president has ever been removed from office by impeachment.
Biden said impeachment proceedings should begin unless the US president complies with a probe into his conversation with Zelenskiy.
Impeaching Trump “would be a tragedy”, Biden said. “But a tragedy of his making.” The former vice-president is frontrunner to take on Trump in the 2020 election.
