Scot celebrates another major landmark

A MIRACLE Scot who wasn’t expected to survive beyond three months old is celebrating his engagement.

Samuel Bell, 20, popped the question to girlfriend Liana Wallace on holiday in Florida.

Sharing the news with loved ones on Facebook, he said: “I decided to get down on one knee and ask my best friend to be with me forever. “She said yes.” Samuel was born with total intestinal Hirschsprung’s disease – a very rare and serious bowel condition.

The disease means he can’t eat and is fed through a tube into his heart. He carries a lifesaving medical kit in a backpack.

Samuel’s engagement to Liana is another milestone in his remarkable life.

He defied a grim diagnosis as a baby and in 2004, he was crowned the Daily Record’s Little Hero.

Samuel’s family were overjoyed when he started primary school and again, when he moved on to secondary.

Now, seeing him planning a future with Liana, 20, is another reason to celebrate.

Record readers have followed Samuel’s journey every step of the way since he first touched our hearts as a youngster.

Yesterday, friends and family rushed to congratulate the young couple after the romantic sunset proposal on a beach – two years to the day after they met on a night out.

Samuel’s mum Sharon, 43, shared photographs of them on Facebook and wrote: “Another milestone and day to celebrate that Samuel and Liana got engaged.”

Sharon is celebrating with husband Martin, 48, and son, Micha, 11.

Earlier this week, we told how Samuel was terrified he and Liana would be stranded in Florida after the Thomas Cook collapse.

He was worried about running out of medication and faced a nail-biting wait to see if they would be able to fly home as planned.

Atlas Air stepped in to offer him a flight home.
