EuroMillions winner backs Jags fans bid
BY KEITH McLEOD EUROMILLIONS winner Colin Weir has backed a Partick Thistle fans’ group as they launch a takeover bid.
Thistle For Ever launched their campaign last month and appealed for backers to gain a controlling stake in the Firhill club.
Weir, 72, walked away from the club earlier this summer having previously funded the youth academy. He also provided capital to set up a training ground.
He and his ex-wife Christine won £161million in 2011.
Paul Goodwin, who spearheaded Thistle For Ever’s bid, revealed that Weir was backing the bid.
Goodwin said: “Change is in the air at Firhill, on and off the park and this opportunity for Partick Thistle to become community-owned will secure a sustainable and certain future for the club.”
