We can Liv with Gers and bank a semi spot
BY GORDON PARKS GARY HOLT insists Livingston can land a Betfred Cup semi-final cash bonanza by beating Rangers tonight.
The Lions boss is adamant his side can clear the last hurdle before booking a last-four place at Hampden on the road to trying to lift the trophy they won in 2004.
Not even the sight of an in-form Light Blues arriving at the Tony Macaroni Arena can dent Holt’s belief they are capable of pulling off a shock.
He said: “I said to the boys this summer that we wanted to build on last season’s achievement of staying in the league with plenty to spare.
“Reaching a semi-final would be another milestone.
“It’s about setting targets and trying to raise the bar so it’s not beyond us to get to Hampden.
“There is also a huge financial incentive for a club like ours to progress into the last four of any major competition and that would be most welcome.
“We also want to take another step as a club and strive to get closer to lifting a trophy and the class of 2004 at Livingston showed it’s more than possible to do that.”
Holt will also look at a trip to Ibrox during their last clash with Steven Gerrard’s side as a cause for optimism as they led in Glasgow before going down to 10 men and being edged out 3-1.
He said: “We went to Ibrox a few weeks ago and held our own for the majority of the game and almost took something.”
