GERRARD HAS PUT PLAYING IN PAST

-

STEVEN GERRARD’S illustrious playing career helped open the door to a huge first job in management at Rangers.

But Gary McAllister reckons he is succeeding as a boss by refusing to use his reputation as a player on the training field.

Gers No.2 McAllister knows many great players have failed in the dugout after struggling to make the transition.

But he said: “Someone has imprinted in his coaching head that he can’t rely on being Steven Gerrard the midfielder, it has to be Steven Gerrard the manager.

“There have been some fantastic players over the years who have found it difficult to make that transition.

“But Steven has that psyche of ‘my playing days are done, I’m now in a different field’.”
