McPake and Irvine summoned to court

-

BY CHARLIE GALL DUNDEE boss James McPake and a former teammate have been charged by police in connection with a bar brawl.

It emerged yesterday that the 35-year-old football manager and Forfar player Gary Irvine, 34, are facing prosecution.

Both clubs confirmed they were aware of the situation but declined to comment because legal proceedings are active.

Police Scotland said officers were scrambled to the popular Braes sports and wine bar in Dundee’s Perth Road late on Sunday.

Yesterday, they said two men, aged 35 and 34, had been charged following a disturbance at the public house about 11.30pm.

A force spokesman said: “Both men are both due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court at a later date.” McPake and Irvine are believed to have gone to the pub together after turning out in a match in the afternoon.

McPake, whose playing career was cut short by injury, came on as a substitute in Greg Kirk’s testimonial at Lochee United.

The Dundee-based junior club took on a Dundee XI, coached by former Dark Blue star Irvine.

The game ended 4-4 and it’s understood McPake and Irvine decided to head to Braes for a beer.

A spokeswoman for the Braes confirmed they dealt with “an incident”.

She said: “We can confirm that there was an incident between two customers at The Braes on Sunday.

“The safety of all our customers is of paramount importance. The situation was swiftly dealt with and our team escorted one of the parties off the premises immediately.”

At an early stage of the police investigation, it was suggested a male had sustained a serious injury, later said to be “minor”.
