Life of Bryan gets sweetener

-

BRYAN BOYLAN proved his injury hell is behind him as a double helped Auchinleck lift the first silverware of the season on home soil.

Giants Talbot retained the Sectional League Cup with a 6-1 win over Lanark United at Beechwood Park.

Boylan had seen his debut season derailed by a knee injury in pre-season having joined from Kilwinning and only made his competitive bow a fortnight ago.

But the striker needed less than three minutes yesterday to capitalise on a dodgy clearance before Gareth Armstrong nodded home after going up for a high ball with the Yowes keeper.

United, 8-1 with the bookies to win, enjoyed the pick of the goals when Peter O’Donnell’s screamer into the top bag almost burst the netting.

But that was as close as Colin Slater’s side would get as Mark Shankland converted a penalty a minute into the second half then Boylan rattled in from 12 yards out.

Jack McDowall nutmegged a Lanark player before firing home at the near post as Craig McCracken slotted Bot’s sixth after a stramash.

That clinched the same scoreline Tommy Sloan’s side had beaten Lesmahagow by in last season’s showpiece

While Bot were on cup duty, Clydebank made it five wins from six since Gordon Moffat took charge as Conor Lynass’ hat-trick downed Hurlford 3-0. Lynass, a summer recruit from Glenafton said: “It’s always nice to get on the scoresheet but to get three is an amazing feeling.

“I’m playing with confidence and really enjoying my football again. I had been in and out of the team in the early parts of the season but the new gaffer has come in and shown faith in me. I just want to keep playing well and scoring goals to cement my place in the side.”

Ford assistant boss John Garroch, who saw Liam Caddis and keeper Chris Murchie sent off in normal time then Adam Hodge after the final whistle, said: “The goals we are giving away are criminal.”
