Keep calm and Curry on scoring

Boro starlet Mitch desperate to deliver for Caley Jags after crock hell stopped loan stint in tracks

-

MITCH CURRY insists he’s in a rush to make up for lost time after being forced to spend 11 weeks of a season-long loan at Inverness looking on from the sidelines.

The Middlesbrough centre -forward sustained ankle-ligament damage against Dundee just five matches into his Caley Thistle career.

But the jinxed hitman showed no sign of an injury hangover when he pounced on a mistake by Alloa debutant Nathan Gilhooly close to half-time to set his side up for a convincing Tunnock’s Carmel Wafer Cup triumph.

Now the 20-year-old has vowed to kick on and put two seasons of frustration behind him.

He said: “I’ve suffered set back after set back so it feels good to come back after 11 weeks, get 75 minutes under my belt and get on scoresheet as well.

“The last couple of seasons it seems I’ve not been able to get going with injuries and little niggles so hopefully I can now finally kick on.

“I did my left ankle and I was meant to be out for four weeks but it ended up being nine. Then in my second day back training I picked up a groin injury and that was another fortnight I was out.”

Second-half goals from Charlie Trafford and sub Matheus Machado got the job done for Inverness.

But Alloa also had chances, with Iain Flannigan and Andy Graham hitting the woodwork in the final quarter of the match.

Wasps boss Peter Grant said: “We played a lot of good stuff.

“I’m pleased with certain aspects of it and disappointed with others.

“We created as much as Inverness and as long as we are in the game we will always create chances because we have the players capable of doing just that.”

But the former Celtic star hit out at referee John McKendrick and even accused officials of not giving Alloa a fair crack of the whip.

Grant said: “He has to look at himself for the last goal. If that’s not a push I’ve never seen one.

“But we’re used to these decisions. I’ve said before, it’s only poor old Alloa so officials can give decisions against us and it doesn’t matter.

“But it matters to us because the boys work extremely hard and I get really disappointed for them.”
