Top feeling to be off my Mark at last

-

MARK DURNAN broke his two-year goal drought to help propel Falkirk to a 2-0 win over Forfar and the top of League One.

His goal came late in the first half after Michael Tidser found him inside the box while a Michael Travis own goal late in the game sealed the three points.

Following a 1-0 defeat by Clyde the win came at a crucial time for the Bairns.

Durnan said: “Forfar is a tough place to come and a lot of teams have struggled here this season.

“After last week’s defeat we were all disappointed. We’d let the club down and we’d let the manager down because we came in for a lot of stick after the match.

“We’ve put that right now. At times it wasn’t pretty but we needed to come and win three points to challenge for the title.

“We’re top of the league now which is something we’ve thrown away a few times this season.”

Falkirk had created plenty of chances then a corner fell to Michael Tidser among a scramble in the box and he fed through for Durnan to curl into the net.

Durnan said: “It was a great ball from Tidser, it was something we’ve been working on. He’s got great delivery and puts it right on the spot. The ball sort of ricoched but I managed to get my foot in there.

“It’s my first goal for Falkirk and it’s been frustrating because I’ve not scored in two years.”

Raith dropped to second after a 2-0 defeat at Peterhead where Jack Leitch slotted in on 35 minutes after a miskick by keeper David McGurn.

Gary Fraser curled in a sublime second 16 minutes from time with Raith’s Iain Davidson dismissed just afterwards following a rant at ref Gavin Ross.

Graham Webster drilled in eight minutes from the break as Montrose won their fifth game in a row 1-0 at East Fife to end the Fifers’ unbeaten start.

Dale Carrick’s double helped Airdrie keep visitors Dumbarton out of the top four with a 3-1 success.

Calum Gallagher netted for the Diamonds within the first minute with Carrick hitting home before the break after Reghan Tumilty levelled.

First-half goals from Adam Cummins and Scott Robertson along with Mark Stewart’s injury-time spotkick took Stranraer off bottom spot with a 3-0 win against Clyde.
