LEWIS Capaldi yesterday celebrated receiving his first Grammy nomination by posting photos of himself having a lie-in. The West Lothian singersongwriter was so laid back as he heard the exciting news that he remained horizontal throughout. Lewis received a song of the year nod for his breakthrough hit Someone You Loved, which has topped the charts in the UK and the US. Reaching the top spot across the pond made him the first solo Scottish artist to do so since Sheena Easton’s Morning Train in 1981. Lewis, 23, who refers to himself as “America’s sweetheart”, is up against Billie Eilish, Tanya Tucker, HER, Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey and Lizzo at the US awards ceremony, which will take place on January 26. But the Whitburn lad was not fazed, even taking to Instagram again to share a video of himself taking his top off while dancing and singing along to his new song Before You Go.

His latest hit was released at 5pm on Tuesday, picking up one million streams on Spotify in less than half a day and shooting to No1 on iTunes.

Lewis added: “Seriously, one of the most personal songs I’ve ever written.

“This song means a lot to me but it will mean even more if it becomes successful.”

Last month’s US No1 made him the first UK artist to top the US charts with a single from a debut album since Leona Lewis’s Bleeding Love in 2008.

It came on the back of the US leg of his tour which included shows in New York, Boston, Las Vegas and Chicago.

Lewis is not the only Scot to be nominated for a Grammy.

Ayrshire violin maestro Nicola Benedetti is up for best classical instrument solo thanks to a recording of a concerto, written for her by jazz musician Wynton Marsalis.

Other British acts to be nominated include Ed Sheeran, whose No6 Collaborations Project is up for best pop album, and Ella Mai, whose debut record is nominated for best R&B album.

The Chemical Brothers received three nominations in the dance categories, while Thom Yorke and James Blake go up against each for best alternative album.
