-

BY LOUIE SMITH THE mother of Harry Dunn wept with relief as the wife of a US intelligence officer was charged with causing his death by dangerous driving.

Anne Sacoolas, 42, sparked an international row when she fled to America after allegedly killing the 19-year-old motorcyclist.

Mum Charlotte Charles, 44, who vowed justice for her son as he lay dying, said: “We’ve taken a huge step in the start of achieving the promise we made.”

But lawyers for mum-of-three Sacoolas, who claims diplomatic immunity, said she would “not return voluntarily to the UK” where a possible 14-year jail term would not be “proportionate”.

Charlotte flew to America with Harry’s father Tim, 50, in their bid

WEEPING Charlotte to win justice for their son, even meeting US president Donald Trump at the White House.

Tim said: “We have done it. We

VICTIM Harry, 19 have got the charge. “It’s absolutely amazing. Justice. Whatever happens now doesn’t matter, we got what we wanted.”

Sacoolas’s lawyers said they had contacted UK authorities about her desire to help prevent future accidents and her wish to honour Harry’s memory.

But they added: “She will not return voluntarily to face a potential jail sentence for a terrible but unintentional accident.”

Their announcement means Trump must decide whether to support extradition.

Petrol station worker Harry, of Charlton, Northamptonshire, died outside RAF Croughton in August.
