Mensur happy to be the Fallon guy

Suljovic vows he will end reign of Queen of the Palace

- BY CRAIG SWAN

GRIZZLY giant Mensur Suljovic insists he will have no problems taking a bat to Fallon Sherrock’s Christmas fairytale.

The Austrian will be placed in the role of pantomime villain tonight when he goes up against the Queen of the Palace.

Sherrock’s magical spell following her stunning victory over Ted Evetts has brought her worldwide acclaim, including a front page in The New York Times.

The 25-year-old now goes into a Saturday night prime-time slot at the William Hill World Championship with the entire crowd inside the Alexandra Palace ready to roar her towards another memorable victory. But Suljovic is undaunted at playing the bad guy and said: “Obviously, it’s a special game with everything that has happened but I won’t prepare any differently and I have to treat Fallon as I would any other opponent.

“Fallon was very good against Ted but that’s not a surprise, she qualified very impressively and overall ladies darts is very close to the men’s game.

“I fully expect what’s happened over the last few days to become the norm. I’ve played

with and against females during my Electronic Darts days.

“Will it add more pressure? I don’t think so, although the atmosphere will be electric, maybe the best Ally Pally has ever seen.

“I feel good, I’ve prepared in the same way I do for every tournament. It’s gone well.

“In 2019 my form has been up and down at times but I won my home Euro Tour and a Players Championship, so it’s not been too bad and I‘m raring to go now.”

Sherrock knows she’ll be TV gold tonight with a massive audience due to tune in and it’s a role reversal.

She said: “On the Saturday night before Christmas, I would normally be at home watching telly and eating crisps. “I know my life is going to be different now. Next time I go to the supermarket I will definitely make sure I have my make-up on. I daren’t go out without it now. “I’ve never met Mensur before but he has a reputation as one of the nicest guys on the darts circuit. “Once I get up on stage, I will have

to forget who I am playing and focus on the game itself.

“When the specs go on, the shades come down. It’s like Superman, I just change, all I do is focus on the board.

“But it will be different when I arrive on Saturday night.

“Last time, it was all new but this time everyone will know who I am.

“I probably won’t be able to sit and watch as just another face in the crowd.

“It has been awesome, going back and forth across London to do radio interviews, TV interviews, playing darts with Piers Morgan. I never thought I would ever appear on TV.

“By the time I got back to the hotel after my game against Ted, I was still buzzing.

“I couldn’t switch off. I managed to get a bit of sleep but I was up again at 5am.”
