JUNIOR MORIAS insists small portions of his mum’s Jamaican home cooking can add some spice to St Mirren over the festive season.

The Buddies striker is hosting his London-based family over the festive period, with a trip to St Johnstone this afternoon being followed by a clash against Celtic in Paisley on Boxing Day.

After taking four points from their last two games, Morias believes home comforts can help him continue a rich vein of form but is rationing himself on chicken jerky.

The 24-year-old said: “I’m not going home for Christmas because of the game on Boxing Day but my family is coming up.

“My mum, sisters and children will be there so it will be good to spend some time with everyone.

“I won’t be cooking – my mum is legendary on Christmas Day and she will lead the way.

“She makes a lot of traditional Jamaican food but I can’t enjoy it too much because of the game the next

day. My mum understands that but we will have a good time as a family and then it’s down to business against Celtic. “Hopefully they can all come and watch the game too.

“It’s a positive thing to have your family up for Christmas. My team-mate Jon Obika’s family are coming up too and it’s nice.

“We are making a sacrifice to move

up to Scotland away from family but they understand.

“Fingers crossed we get a good result against St Johnstone and then we can see some smiles over Christmas before Boxing Day when we will try to get something.”

St Mirren’s staff and players enjoyed a Christmas party at their training ground this week and Morias believes the morale at the club has never been sunk despite suffering spells this season where they’ve been stuck at the foot of the table.

The summer arrival from Northampton has taken time to get into his stride but two goals in his last five games has lifted both his mood and the fortunes of his side.

Morias said: “There is a positive atmosphere around the place and we have had good results. Even when things weren’t going well, we always tried to create a positive atmosphere.”
